The Atkin’s Diet and The Primal Diet are quite possibly the best of the best when it comes to Low Glycemic Diets. I have tried both diets and noticed quite an improvement in my stamina and weight.
The Atkin’s Diet
The Atkin’s Diet involves the restriction of carbohydrates in order to get your body to burn it’s own fat. Your body prefers to burn glucose over fat which is why the restriction of carbohydrates is necessary.
If given the choice your body will metabolize the glucose from the carbohydrates you eat first and eating too much carbohydrates creates fat storage, not the burning of fat.
My Personal Experience
I did this diet for about 3 years and I felt like super woman. I was able to work 6 days a week, care for my young child, and cook most of my own meals.
I didn’t need to sleep for more than 6 hours and I got a lot of work done during my experience with this diet.
Taking really good natural-supplements helped this diet tremendously and I noticed when I stopped taking them the diet became harder to do.
Low Glycemic Diets can include Low Glycemic Foods such as:
Eggs, Chicken, Pork, Beef, Fish, Lamb, Buffalo, Turkey, Shellfish
Whole Milk, Whole Yogurt, Cheese, Butter, Cream
Brown Rice, Whole Wheat Pasta, Oats
Pecans, Macadamia Nuts, Almonds, Coconuts, Pumpkin Seeds
Lemons, Limes, Raspberries, Blackberries, Grapefruit, Tomatoes, Avocado
Broccoli, Onion, Mushrooms, Spinach, Kale, Chard, Asparagus, Peppers, Celery, Cilantro, Parsley, Lettuce
Kidney Beans, Lentils, Navy Beans, Chickpeas
The Primal Diet
The Primal Diet is very similar to the Atkin’s Diet, but there are a few differences:
This is a raw food diet
There is No Carb Counting involved
No Grains or Legumes are really allowed
Supplements are not really recommended on this diet
If you must drink water, Mineral Water is recommended
Raw milk, raw meats, raw eggs, raw butter, raw coconut cream and raw vegetable juices are the staples of this diet.
My Personal Experience
I absolutely loved raw milk and even gave this to my young child.
I noticed she had no dental problems while drinking raw milk, but when I stopped the raw milk along came the cavities.
I found raw eggs and raw meats very balancing. They really seemed to affect my stamina and energy levels.
Even though I wasn’t raw 100% of the time, I was able to notice a big change in my health. All in all, the primal diet gave me a grounding and calmness I never really experienced from any diet.
I do recommend that you give raw foods a try, even if it’s just eating more sushi – you’ll feel a big difference in your energy level.
